Course
Content
Each course will
bring together the exceptional teaching skills of BASS and the high
quality mountain guiding from Wilderplaces. There will be 12 places
available on each course making a 1:6 instructor/guide ratio.
Typically each course will
include;
- All mountain/all terrain
skiing skills
- Specific off piste skiing
techniques
- Development of individual
performance
- Video analysis
- Avalanche awareness
- Use of transceivers
- Intro to Backcountry
(skinning)
- Off piste tactics including
"safe travel"

January Course
Skiing some of the exciting areas
of the Chamonix valley, e.g. Le Tour, Brevent/Flegere, Les Grandes
Montets, Aiguille du Midi.
March Course
In addition to the above there
will be a 2-day tour to St. Bernard, Switzerland, involving a
beautiful train journey and an overnight stay in a refuge.
Skier Profile for both
courses
SKI REDS AND EASY BLACKS
The ability to ski reds at a good pace in all conditions and easy
blacks. More difficult blacks, bumps and off-piste definitely need
more work! A reasonable level of fitness and open to learning will
be helpful.
Prices
Course fee £375.00 Sterling,
which includes all tuition & guiding, video analysis and a CD of
photos from the week. This is paid directly to BASS.
Additional costs;
Equipment
including transceiver, shovel, probe, alpine ski boots, ski
sticks, skis with touring bindings, skins, crampons and harness,
approx. cost €225.00
Insurance
with off piste cover (BMC recommended), approx. cost €90.00
Cham Ski Pass
- 6 day for Course 1 - €176.00 tbc
- 4 day for Course 2 -
€134.00 tbc
Swiss Tour
(Course 2 only), train & refuge, approx. cost €130
And finally, accommodation
for 7 nights (preferably in Argentiere), flight to Geneva,
and transfer to resort (ATS recommended @ approx. €45.00 each

Staff Profile

Derek Tate
is a qualified
fulltime ski teacher (BASI, ISTD). He currently works as a trainer for
BASI, tutor for Snowsport Scotland and is director of training for the
Irish Association of Snowsport Instructors. Derek and his wife Shona
are directors of BASS Chamonix which is part of the highly respected
British Alpine Ski School Network. The coming season will be their third
in Chamonix and they have quickly become established as the British Ski
School for the region.

Robbie Fenlon
is a qualified fulltime mountain guide (UIAGM). He specialises in
Rock Climbing and Hillwalking in Ireland, Alpine Climbing and Off
Piste Skiing in the European Alps and Trekking in the Himalayas.
His main objective is to give his clients an enjoyable but safe
mountain experience.
He has worked professionally with a wide range of individuals and
groups over the past 15 years and set up Mountain Adventures 5 years
ago. This has now become part of Wilderplaces.
